Time for Grace-June 5, 2024

Psalm 28:7-9

The Lord is my strength and my shield. In him my heart trusts, and I am helped. My heart also celebrates. With my song I will give thanks to him. The Lord is their strength. He is a stronghold of salvation for his anointed king. Save your people, and bless the people that belong to you. Shepherd them, and carry them forever.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We hear of the benefits of membership, and we come to expect those things when they are promised. However, we live in a sinful world, and people continue to prove themselves unreliable, making promises for different things and not keeping their promises.

Yet this is not so with you. David reminds us that you are our strength and shield when the world is quick to let us down or turn on us. You will never disappoint those who trust you because we belong to you. You bring us everything we need physically and spiritually. Even when the world accosts us, which is no fun, in your Word, you assure us of the limitations you have placed upon this world and what it can do; you provide us the way out.

We trust in you because of what Jesus has done for us. He willingly came to this earth out of love for us to suffer and die in our place. Your love was demonstrated to us that while we were still dead in our sins, Jesus came, and from the cross, he asked you to forgive us for our sins.

So we ask you to forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Let your Holy Spirit work in our hearts to trust and believe in your love for us. May he continue to work in us so that we confidently know your mercy and grace.

Let our reaction be to rejoice and share the salvation that is now ours for Jesus’ sake. Let our song of praise be the message of good news others need to hear to begin faith in them so that, too, they are saved and trust in Jesus as their shepherd. Let them confidently know they are your people, which is better than just having a membership. Amen.

When you trust in Jesus and his saving work, you know the love of God intended for you; in his mercy, he has forgiven all your sins and opened heaven to all who believe and trust in Him.
