Time for Grace – September 15, 2025

Job 5:17

Consider this: How blessed is the man whom God corrects! Do not reject the discipline of the Almighty!

Applying God’s Word for today: Corrected out of Love

No one enjoys being corrected, even if they’ve made a mistake. When you do something you know is wrong, your instinct might be to hide it, thinking it will go unnoticed, or to blame others who seem closer to the issue. Just sweep it under the rug so no one catches on. But is this really the best choice? When we refuse to take responsibility for our mistakes, our guilt can build up and cause problems in relationships or lead to other issues.

It’s a blessing that God has given us our conscience to nag at us when we do something wrong; it is an even greater blessing when we get caught in the act (though it often doesn’t feel like it). We live in a sinful world, and we sin all the time; this doesn’t give us an excuse to sin more, but it helps us understand why it happens.

Accountability for our wrongdoings doesn’t just disappear if we ignore it or hide from it. God corrects us through His Word to show us our sins so we recognize when we’ve sinned against God or others. When we admit our errors, God shows His love, and we are blessed because He already sent His Son to undo our guilt and shame. Jesus died on the cross to redeem us from our sins, so by faith in Him we receive His forgiveness. Because of His love for us, we love Him in return, which allows us to be disciplined and to fight against our sinful desires. When we fail, we can be confident that God’s love has not failed—He is ready to correct us again. Through faith in Jesus, we are moved from being eternally condemned to hell to being forgiven and given the promise of eternal salvation in heaven. Share this love that God has for you with someone who does not know God’s love.

Dear Lord, our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier, thank You for loving us so much that You did not leave us to rot in our sins, but have given us a conscience to distinguish right from wrong. You have also placed others around us to correct us when we stray. Please strengthen our faith through Your Word so that we will confidently receive Your discipline. Forgive us for Jesus’ sake for all the ways we have sinned against You and others; restore us to You. Amen.

You might not enjoy being held responsible for what you have done, but it is the best way to move forward with a clear conscience. With faith, knowing your sins are forgiven, you are restored to God, and heaven awaits you.
