Time for Grace – September 26, 2025

Hebrews 4:9-13

So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For the one who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God rested from his work. Therefore, let us make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall into the same pattern of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to the point of dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, even being able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from him, but everything is uncovered and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we will give an account.

Applying God’s Word for Today: Embracing a Sabbath rest for our days

Are you feeling exhausted from all the demands on your attention? Deadlines, commitments, tests, trials, work, and home responsibilities can feel overwhelming. Then there are the things you have said and done that prick at your conscience.

Do you need a good rest? God’s Word offers the rest we seek when facing life’s challenges. Jesus invites everyone who is weary to come to Him, and He will give us rest. Those worries about the unknown and unfinished that keep you awake at night—Jesus tells you to cast your cares on Him. Why? Because He genuinely cares for each of us. The world loves to entangle you in knots with your schedule and demands. Then it loves to spin you in every direction with guilt and shame over your sins. Sometimes, it’s those seemingly minor sins that feel like a sliver irritating you. However, God in His Word provides us with rest from everything the world throws at us.

There, He helps us overcome our sins and removes what condemns us. Jesus suffered on the cross for our sins, and through faith in Him, He forgives all our sins and takes on the worries and concerns of our hearts. Jesus has already shown this by taking our sins into Himself, and instead of condemnation—which we deserve—He gives us His righteousness and eternal life. The world bombards us, but God defends and protects us. Share your rest with someone who doesn’t know God or His Word, and let them experience the same peaceful rest you have.

Dear Lord, we are weighed down by the burdens of the world and the struggles of our sins. We place all of this at Jesus’ feet and pray that you will grant us a Sabbath rest for Jesus’ sake, forgive us, and provide us with peace. Amen.

There is nothing hidden from God; He knows all you do and all you need. Confess and account for your sins, and find the forgiveness Jesus won for you on the cross. Hear God’s word for you, trust it because He wants you to have a peaceful rest in Jesus.
