Psalm 25:4-5
Make known to me your ways, O Lord. Teach me your paths. Make me walk in your truth and teach me, because you are the God who saves me. In you, I hope all day long.
Applying God’s Word for today: When your only hope is in the Lord
The challenge of living in this world is understanding what the truth is. Some say there is no truth, while others argue that truth depends on a person’s opinion. When we’ve been fed the world’s lies, we might wonder, “Where does the truth reside?” or “Where is any hope?” Without faith or knowledge of God, truth can seem like just an abstract idea. Why should I care about someone else? Still, my conscience troubles me when I do something against others; I get frustrated when those who are supposed to be close to me lash out at me for something they believe I have done. The fact that we are aware of our wrongdoings and feel guilty about them is our natural knowledge of God.
Yet, through faith in Jesus, truth is found in the Lord—it comes to us through hearing God’s promise. In His word, He reveals to us that He is not an angry God desiring to condemn His creation; the truth is in His word: ‘I do not desire the death of the wicked.’ And again, ‘I would have all people come to the knowledge of truth.’ Jesus told Nicodemus, ‘God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish.’ God created each of us to be with Him in His kingdom forever, to have the hope and promise of salvation, which is given to us by faith in Jesus. There is nothing you can do to earn this because it is a gift from God. He wants you to be in His kingdom and desires you to know His love. And if you think I am too bad for God to love, remember that you are exactly who God loves. He knows every hair on your head and everything you have ever done. Because He knows you, He sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for your sins in your place. His gifts are completely undeserved and are given to you by faith. God’s love and mercy are the truth; may you hope in this all day long and share this with someone else who does not know God.
Dear Lord, please reveal to me Your truth—the love, grace, and mercy you have for me. Let me know, and trust in my Savior, Jesus, and believe that He forgave every one of my sins. Let me know the truth of your love for me, that I will also know salvation is mine by faith in Christ. Amen.
When someone is blinded by their sins, the light of the truth or the true love God has for them is hidden, but faith in Jesus reveals all the truth, and the Holy Spirit delivers faith through the Word. They then understand the forgiveness, peace, joy, hope, promise, love, and mercy of God.
