Psalm 28:6-7
Blessed be the Lord, because he has heard the sound of my plea for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield. In him my heart trusts, and I am helped. My heart also celebrates. With my song, I will give thanks to him.
Applying God’s Word for today: The Lord Has Heard Us
It’s frustrating when you want to be heard, but it feels like no one listens. A group text message you consider important goes unanswered by those who received it. Or you leave a message, and nobody returns your call; all of this is part of living in a sinful world. Sometimes, we see every message from us as a matter of life and death; our pride makes us wonder why they wouldn’t respond. Are they angry, or are they avoiding us? Did we say something that upset them? We’ve all been in that situation, wanting to be heard.
With God, it’s different; He hears us every time. How do we know? Because He has promised this in His Word. “The Lord has heard my plea for mercy,” even before it is spoken. He knows our concerns before we bring them to Him. So why ask Him? It’s like a small child eyeing a cookie, knowing they want it, but you wait to give it to them until they ask.
God knows our every need, especially when our pride leads us to sin, and He has already forgiven us all our sins. He understands our needs and provided His Son, our Savior, to save us from all our sins. Jesus suffered on the cross for every sin we have committed, so that our sins are completely removed. God recognizes that we cannot do anything about our sins on our own, so He sent us Jesus, who has cloaked us in His righteous perfection and granted us forgiveness. We celebrate God’s love for us by sharing His goodness with those who do not know Him, so that by faith they can receive God’s strength of forgiveness and be delivered from their sins.
Dear Lord, we thank You for the love You have for us and that You always hear us. Lord, forgive us when we doubt Your good will for us because our pride and sinful nature get involved, and we doubt Your love. Help us share this song of salvation with those who do not know or trust You; grant them faith to hold on to You. Amen.
Your pleas for God’s mercy are not ignored. The One who created the ear also hears every concern. Graciously, He is all-knowing and knows how to best respond to your “plea for mercy,” often in ways you never expect.
