Time for Grace – January 22, 2026

1 Timothy 6:20-21

O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, turning away from godless, empty talk and the contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge.” By professing it, some have veered away from the faith. Grace be with you. Amen.

Applying God’s Word for today: Guard your faith; avoid what denies God

It is challenging to be a Christian in our modern world, where science, with its hypotheses and laws, tries to define our world. While many very knowledgeable and educated people write about their findings and speculations, they still seem to fall short. The next generation comes along and revises their findings or completely rejects them. Science was once used to understand God’s order in nature, but much of the world looks to science and knowledge, divorcing itself from God and relying on itself.

The world rejects God’s Word because it contains violence, miracles, prophecy, a man dying on the cross and rising again, and more. But as Paul wrote, all their empty talk of knowledge has led them away from wisdom—knowing God. They refuse to hear what God’s Word is about.

After mankind fell into sin, God did not destroy us; rather, He established His plan of salvation, which often runs contrary to our logic. Why would a holy God come to this earth to save those who are His enemies? Love, the love God has for us. His desire is for all His created beings to be with Him in heaven forever, so He sent His one and only Son to suffer on the cross in our place for all our sins. Jesus has already done this. For all the times we think we know better than God, He has forgiven us. Jesus rose from the dead so that we know God has accepted Jesus’ payment for our sins.

All this comes to us simply by believing in Jesus; we cannot do any works to achieve it. No money needs to change hands; it comes only by believing in Jesus as our Savior. Salvation and eternal life await you. The best thing is that you can share God’s love and gift with others.

Dear Lord God, strengthen our faith to trust You and keep us from trusting in the worldly wisdom that turns us away from You. Guard our hearts so we will always know Your love and mercy, and let us share Your gifts with those around us. Amen.

We don’t live in a bubble; we live in the world. Understanding what the world teaches and knowing what God’s Word says are important for guarding your faith. Your faith in Jesus brings you eternal life and salvation. Cling to what is most important.
