Time for Grace – August 7, 2026

1 Corinthians 10:13

No testing has overtaken you except ordinary testing. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when he tests you, he will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it.

Applying God’s Word for Today: Allowed to Be Tested

Sitting in class, knowing you are about to be tested, is one thing; a surprise test is another. In life, tests can arrive unexpectedly or drag on as a grinding burden. Uncomfortable, irritating, and nagging situations are inevitable. Though we do not look forward to them, as believers we live under the cross. Testing is not unique to us; everyone faces struggles that push our limits. God is faithful through it all.

During difficult times, we might think, “God, please provide answers. What should I do next? I’m unhappy with this situation.” Our sinful nature resists trials because it craves comfort now and wants to trust in itself. Yet God permits these struggles. When we turn to Him in prayer, it is the Spirit’s work of faith. We can recall His Word: “He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when He tests you, He will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it.” God understands us, knows our needs, and loves us.

God is faithful and will not abandon us. He willingly sent His Son to suffer for our sins and die on the cross so that salvation is ours by faith alone. Faith comes through the means of grace—God’s Word and Sacraments. Christ has already borne the consequences of sin for us. This life is temporary; God provides for us and guides us to the end. When our lives are bent and twisted, it is not out of God’s anger but out of His love. Remember, when you are in the thick of it, God is always faithful—even when we are not.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am not a fan of being tested, tried, or put through anything uncomfortable, but I know that is my sinful nature seeking the best life now. I pray that You would forgive my sin of self-worship and turn my attention back to You. I thank You for knowing what I need, even when I don’t, and for loving me so much that You sent Your Son to save me. Grant me a heart of gratitude to give You thanks even in hard times. Amen.

We might think we know our limits until we are pushed beyond them. In the stretching God provides, growth may happen. Be thankful that God knows you better than you know yourself. He provides both the way and the outcome.
