Isaiah 42:5-7

This is what the true God says, the Lord who creates the heavens and stretches them out, who spreads out the earth and everything that it produces, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk on it. I am the Lord. I have called you in righteousness. I will hold on to your hand, and I will guard you. I will appoint you to be a covenant for the people, to be a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring the prisoners out from the dungeon, and to bring those who sit in darkness out of prison.

Dear Heavenly Father,

What a promise you gave to your Son, that he would be the covenant for all who are dead in sin. You sent Jesus to restore your people, and you would be with him every step of the way. He would bring the light to all who are in the darkness of their sins and remove sin’s blindness. And he would set the prisoners free from sin’s chains. Lord, we pray for the forgiveness that comes only through Jesus—his holy life and innocent suffering and death on the cross. So please be with us, restore us, and set us free. Let us trust your promise to your Son—you were with him. Because of Jesus’ work, he freed us.

In our freedom and restoration, let us also hear the promises for us. As we share the good news with those who do not know you or their sins, you will be with us also. Your Holy Spirit called each of us by name to be your believers; you have put your name on us in our baptisms and made us righteous. We have nothing to fear from the world as we share the good news of salvation and eternal life with others because you guard us. So be with us to restore sight to those spiritually blind, unlocking sin’s prison cell and leading those out into the light of Jesus’ forgiveness so they, too, will believe in Jesus. Please give us the confidence in knowing that you will always be with us. Amen.

We are all poor miserable sinners, which is why Jesus came to free us all. He did his work with the Father standing by his side and anointed by the Holy Spirit so that we would have eternal life. Know and trust this—Jesus has set you free!
