Time for Grace-April 16, 2024

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we should pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that are not expressed in words.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for sending us Your Holy Spirit. We like to think of ourselves as strong and able to take on the world, but in reality, we are vulnerable and weak. Our human nature, sin, and desires all limit us.

Too often, we are overwhelmed by the challenges of this world and all the things that seem to come at us from every direction. We don’t know where to begin or what to ask for help with everything that comes at us.

At other times, when we become overwhelmed by the burdens of guilt and shame that come from our sins, we can be afraid to ask for help. Where do we begin? Especially since we know we do not deserve Your love or mercy and should not even be able to approach Your throne.

So, You assure us that the Holy Spirit is here to help. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we struggle with all the unknown what’s, why’s, how’s, or who’s in our lives. He instills faith in us to know and trust You and Your Son, our Savior. Only by faith in Jesus, believing He suffered and died on the cross to save us from all our sins, are we saved, and by believing in Jesus, we also know You.

We can come to You because Jesus removed all our sins, and the Holy Spirit has given us the faith to believe in Your salvational plan. Let us confidently bring all our unknowns to the Holy Spirit and ask him to speak on our behalf when we are lost, dazed, and confused. Give us the confidence to trust Him and trust in You.

Let our reaction to Your love for us—Your salvational plan of mercy—be to share the good news of Your grace, peace, and love with those who do not know You. We ask that through Your Word and sacraments, they, too, would come to faith and leave all their concerns confidently with the Holy Spirit, who will cry out for them in groans. Amen.

God desires to hear from you even when you don’t know what questions to ask. When we don’t know what to ask, we pray by faith in God, and he demonstrates His love by answering our prayers according to what our faith and salvation need.
