1 Timothy 6:6-12
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly cannot take anything out. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge them into complete destruction and utter ruin. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evils. By striving for money, some have wandered away from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains. But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and about which you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Be by our side today to fight the good fight against greed and great gain. Teach each of us to be content with all that we have. We pray for your blessing of food and clothing so that we might be content with all we need to sustain our lives. Please never let excess ruin our faith, but allow us to hold on to you for all we need.
Your Son came to this world. He was born to peasant parents and had limited means to sustain himself, yet he had all the necessary food and clothing. While he serves as an excellent example for us to be content with all we have, his life and death are what are truly important. He suffered for our punishment whenever we become discontent with our lives and sound like children wanting more or something different. Please forgive us, for Jesus’ sake; grant us forgiveness according to your grace and mercy.
Let our contentment serve as our confession before others so that it might bear witness to many. We pray that many more people will come to know and trust in Jesus as their Savior, who suffered and died for them. Grant them eternal life that comes through faith in Jesus. Amen.

Wealth and money do not produce evil; they are blessings God has given us to buy homes, food, and clothing. The love of money and the desire to gain more cause greed, hate, and other evil, but Jesus has forgiven all our sins, including our discontentment. There, he brings you life.
