Psalm 16:8
I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Dear Heavenly Father,
You are set before us only because of your instruction, which leads us to faith and restores us to you. So, let us consider your instruction for us. We are, by nature, sinful; when Adam and Eve fell into sin, we inherited their sin; it has become a part of who we are, and we cannot escape it on our own. Sin causes our pride to get involved, and we focus on what we want for ourselves; all our evil thoughts are because of sin.
In your word, you instruct us what sin is and how we are to be your children; you gave us your will for us in your commandments: we are to love you above all other things and love our neighbors as ourselves. Since we can no longer live the perfect lives you demand, you sent your Son to live the perfect life we could not live and die an innocent death for all our sins. When we trust that Jesus has paid the price for our sins—you are set before us.
Being at our right hand means you provide us with our strength. You sent your Son to redeem us, not to tell us later that we are on our own to make our way to heaven, as we will, but you provide for us in this life and the next. You continue to give your strength to us as we navigate this fallen world, and we can be confident that you will continue to be with us until our end comes when you take us to be with you forever in heaven.
Please let us share with those who do not know you where our strength comes from; it comes from you. We ask that you instill faith in them to know you and put you ever before them so that they, too, will have salvation and eternal life. Amen.
