Time for Grace-August 10, 2024

John 6:66-68

After this, many of his disciples turned back and were not walking with him anymore. So Jesus asked the Twelve, “You do not want to leave, too, do you?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life.

Dear Lord Jesus,

The simplicity of your love and the message of forgiveness is often too complicated for many to understand and frequently becomes a stumbling block for many to walk away from and not believe. These people who left you and the disciples were eyewitnesses to your miracles and heard from you that you were the way to eternal life. However, because this was by faith alone and there was no work on their part, they could not understand and left.

Let this event be a testimony to never be overconfident in our efforts, but keep us grounded in the simplicity of our faith and trust in you. As Peter said, “To whom will we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Let us keep this always before us so that we focus on what is most important to us—salvation, which leads to eternal life. You suffered the punishment of the cross for our sins; you died on the cross in our place so that you defeated sin, death, and the devil. Please keep us in faith that we can confidently lay our sins before you and trust we are forgiven.

While many will not hear your words, many will still. So we ask that You provide us with opportunities to share Your love, mercy, and grace with them; let the gospel begin faith in them so that they, too, will have and believe the words of eternal life. Amen.

There is only one way to salvation: faith in Jesus. He is your Savior who has paid the price of all your sins so that by faith in him, you have eternal life.
