Time for Grace – November 20, 2024

2 Timothy 2:11-13

This saying is trustworthy: Indeed, if we have died with him, we will also live with him; If we endure, we will also reign with him; If we deny him, he will also deny us; If we are faithless, he remains faithful, because he cannot deny himself.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for establishing a way to restore us to you—your Son. Our sinful natures make a divide that separates us from you. We have been restored through Jesus’ innocent suffering and death; this gift of life is ours through faith in Him.

Paul explained it so well in his letter to Timothy: if we have died with Him, we also live with Him. Faith comes to us through the water and the word; it is where we believe in Jesus’ death and know that our old sinful nature also died when He died.

Paul also reminds us that faith is not a one-and-done situation; it must be regularly fed to endure to the end. Lord, you have promised us that if we remain faithful, we will reign with Jesus. However, if we deny Jesus, he will deny us. Yet Jesus is still faithful when we are faithless. The good news is that he can and has forgiven us when we allow our faith to drift away from you.

Lord, we pray you will keep us by your word; give us the assurance of your forgiveness that comes only through Jesus. Strengthen our faith so we will endure to the end of our lives and have a blessed rest with you for eternity.

We ask you to instill in us the courage to share this good news of Jesus’ faithfulness with those who still do not know him or you or are confused about your peace. So they will have the peace of forgiveness made available for all people through faith in your Son, our Lord. Amen.

God is love, and his will is for all to believe in him. He is faithful to you. He demonstrated his faithfulness by sending His Son to suffer and die in our place for our sins. God’s mercy goes far beyond what we could ever imagine.
