Isaiah 7:14

Therefore, the Lord himself will give a sign for all of you. Look! The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and name him Immanuel.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You did give us all that miraculous sign: Mary giving birth to Jesus, your Son. In the first century, many refused to believe and questioned how Mary became pregnant; even Joseph was about to divorce her quietly with the notion that she had been unfaithful. Yet You remained close to her, overshadowing her to protect her from the world around her.

This miracle should have pointed all as a neon sign to recognize that the world’s Savior had come. But many rejected the possibility of this miracle occurring; many had hardened their hearts, not wanting to consider this was the fulfillment of your promise. That this sign being fulfilled would mean the restoration of all mankind to you.

As we move further away from the miraculous day when your Son came into the world, more people reject this sign and other similar signs, which also point to your Son as our Savior. This prophecy contains not one but two great signs: first, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son; the second is the name he will be given—Immanuel (God with us). Thank you for these miracles.

It is a miracle that the creator became part of creation. Jesus lived among us, not only as a mere man but also as God veiled in human flesh. He lived the perfect life we could not attain and then suffered on the cross in our place to restore us to you. He defeated sin, death, and the devil in his perfect life and holy death. While they are visible reminders of our sins, they have no power over those who believe in Jesus.

Jesus remains with us today. For all who believe in him, his resurrection has removed our sins. Let us be a witness to others about the love and mercy you have given us through the Virgin’s sign; let us share the good news of how all have been restored to you, and that gift comes by faith to all who believe. Let many finally see the signs you gave to the world, and let them receive your love and mercy. Amen

God showed his love to you over 2000 years ago by sending his only begotten Son to be born of a virgin. Jesus is our Immanuel, who died and rose so that all who believe will have salvation and eternal life.
