Psalm 90:1-2
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, you are God.
Dear Heavenly Father,
So often, we think of you being distant from us, yet how can that be when you contain the universe? Nature and the universe are all yours and in your hands; you hold the universe. So where can we go that you are not already there?
You provide all that we need in this life: air to breathe, food to eat, water to drink, clothes and shoes to wear, and places to sleep. You created this world for us to live in and gave us tasks to do while we are here. We pray today that we will do your will and serve you and others out of love for what you have done for us. You are our God, and we give you thanks. You are the only true God here from the beginning of all creation.
Moreover, out of love, you sent your Son to us because of the corruption of our sins, the selfish, loveless things that we think or say and do condemn us. There is no way we could or should be able to come near you, our holy God.
Yet, Jesus lived a perfect life in love toward you and others (us) and then credited us with his perfection. He suffered the punishment of our sins on the cross so that we would have eternal life. In the forgiveness Jesus won for us, we are reunited with you, so we dwell with you forever. You are our permanent dwelling place. Lord, thank you for loving us so much that you made salvation possible so that whoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life.
Please allow us to share this good news about salvation with those who do not know you. May this message of love and mercy go beyond where we can so that others will know you are their God and that you sent your Son to save them. Please soften their hearts and have your Holy Spirit start faith in them so they know and believe in Jesus as their Savior. Amen.
