Time for Grace – January 25, 2025

John 4:13-14

Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty ever again. Rather, the water I will give him will become in him a spring of water, bubbling up to eternal life.”

Dear Lord Jesus,

Water is necessary for our bodies; we need to rehydrate regularly. As you told the woman at the well, everyone who drinks that water will be thirsty again. However, the spiritual water of faith You give becomes an internal spring we can share with others.

You had to go through Samaria and stop at Jacob’s well. You met the woman stuck in her sins; she needed your forgiveness. She already knew her guilt and shame, so she was coming in the heat of the day to draw water and not be judged by others over her situation. Moreover, while she didn’t want to talk about what she had done, You let her know she was talking to the One who forgave sins—You. You were the promised Messiah that one sent to redeem all people.

You forgive us. So, with repentant hearts, we come to You and ask You to renew our souls. The gift of salvation comes to us through faith. You sent Your Holy Spirit to begin our faith so that, trusting in You, we know You have forgiven all our sins, and with sins removed, we are restored to You, our God. Let us bring all our sins of thoughts, words, and actions before You, including those we have forgotten about or overlooked; please forgive all our sins. Restore our souls to be washed clean.

We also consider Isaiah’s words: “Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they are as red as crimson, they will be like wool.” Please give us spiritual water that never goes dry. Let us share our faith in You with those who do not know You. Let them also have the peace of forgiveness and quench their spiritual thirst with Your love, grace, and mercy. Amen.

Holding on to the guilt and shame of one’s past sins never feels good. However, admitting and laying your sins at the foot of the cross is an excellent place to begin. Because on the cross, the water of life came from Jesus’ side, and in Him, he has granted a full pardon for all your sins.
