1 Timothy 6:6-12
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly cannot take anything out. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be satisfied. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge them into complete destruction and utter ruin. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evils. By striving for money, some have wandered away from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains. But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and about which you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for providing everything we need to live. We ask that you be with us so that we find contentment in what we have. You have given us talents and abilities to do our work, which allow us to earn our wages. Through our work, we support ourselves and our families. Income and money are not evil; they are blessings from you, and through them, we can also bless others.
The issue emerges when our focus is solely on acquiring more and more. We become selfish, acting as if this is all there is—believing it’s “my job” or “my money.” The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, especially when someone sees money as what grants them prestige, power, or influence—to buy their way through life. Lord, sustain us and keep us from chasing after and living only for your blessings; be with us to fight the good fight of faith and trust you for all that we need.
We repent for all the times we have bowed to the blessings you have given us and have shown more love for your blessings than for you. Please keep us from all the temptations that could trap us. It is for Jesus’ sake that we can lay our sins at your feet and ask for forgiveness, for he has already endured our punishment on the cross for our sins. Let us share your love and mercy with those around us so that we may lead them to You, the one who has blessed us with every good gift and blessing. Amen.

Money itself is not evil, but the love of money is the root of every evil, while loving God endures and grants us eternal life. Resist the desires that can ruin your soul and find contentment in the blessings God bestows upon you, knowing He is good, gracious, and full of love.
