Time for Grace – July 31, 2025

Psalm 24:1-2

The earth is the Lord’s and everything that fills it, the world and all who live in it, because he founded it on the seas, and he established it on the rivers.

Apply God’s love for ourselves today:

Have you ever wondered, “How am I going to make it to the end of the month?” I still have part of the month left, and my last paycheck is already spent. We’ve all been there at one time or another; maybe you’re there right now. Then somehow, you make it through. Here’s the truth: we have a loving God who is greater than all our debt.

But when we face personal or financial crises, we can lose sight of Him. We forget that everything around us—He created out of nothing. What’s hard to understand is that we go through these ups and downs in life, and He allows them to happen, but He also limits them. You might wonder, “I thought He was a loving God. Why would He do that?” If you have children or have been a child, you understand that even though children ask for everything, there are times when they don’t get it. They sit in their rooms and sulk because they think their parents hate them. Why? Because they made them do their homework, held them to their bedtime, made them sit and eat dinner, or had them go to church.

God allows troubles to come our way but limits them to what we can handle. It prompts us to turn to Him in these times and depend on Him for all we need, while giving thanks for what we receive. Recognize that God owns it all. He created everything around you out of nothing to sustain you during your time on earth, and everything you have is a blessing to help you cross the finish line into heaven.

After all, your salvation is the most important thing to God, and you are valuable to Him, which is why His Son willingly came to earth to take on the greatest debt—the debt of your sins. These sins are what keep you out of heaven. However, God does not leave you in this state; He sent Jesus to live the perfect life and then die an innocent death on the cross with all your sins. This is so that, by faith, you trust that Jesus has removed that heavy burden of sin from you. When we sin, we can be confident that Jesus hears our confession and forgives us. We serve an amazing and loving God who desires all of us to spend eternity in heaven with Him.

Dear Lord God, Creator of the Universe,

We confess our sins: that we sometimes lose focus on You when overwhelmed by earthly burdens. Forgive us when we become afraid and guide us back to trusting in You, knowing that You support us and have already limited whatever we might face. We also thank You for lifting the heavy burden of sin through Your Son, our Savior. Give us opportunities to share Your love and mercy with those around us who are struggling in the world; may they see Your love and mercy firsthand. Amen.

Knowing that the entire universe belongs to God and that He is gracious, what is there to fear? After all, He has taken on your greatest debt of sin through His Son. Your sins are forgiven.
