Time for Grace – August 5, 2025

Luke 12: 27-31

[Jesus said] “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. But I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. If this is how God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith? Do not constantly chase after what you will eat or what you will drink. Do not be worried about it. To be sure, the nations of the world chase after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need them. Instead, continue to seek the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you.”

Applying God’s words for your life today! The stresses of this world wear on us all. You worked a full day, and then someone walks in the door and asks, “What’s for dinner?” Then you wonder, “What are we going to fix?” Then you have probably had those days when that unexpected doctor’s bill comes in or the unexpected car repair, and knowing you are running out of money, the refrigerator seems empty, and the pantry is bare. Worry starts to set in: “How am I going to feed myself?” Or you might worry about what you are going to wear.

But Jesus reassures us today that there is nothing we need to worry about. Have you ever driven past a field of wildflowers? Seeing a sea of blooming plants is breathtaking. Jesus’ point is that you are far more important than those wild fields, which appear and then disappear at the end of summer. He wants you to keep your eyes fixed on Him and the love God has for you; be concerned about feeding your soul. The Son willingly became a part of creation so Jesus could live the perfect life we couldn’t, and then He clothes us in His righteousness. He also died on the cross to pay for all your sins. If God willingly did all this to ensure you have eternal life, He will also provide everything needed to sustain and clothe you while you’re on earth.

Next time you see weeds flowering in some random ditch, remember how much more God loves you and how He wants you to pursue Him. Share His love with those around you who do not know God so that they, too, will be confident in the love He has for them.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Forgive us when we lose sight of your grace and mercy, focusing on what we lack. Instead, guide us to focus on what our faith needs for sustenance. Let us give thanks for all that you have blessed us with, including your gifts and your love. Guide us see the wildflowers and remember what truly matters—particularly the price you paid for our forgiveness, your holy, precious blood. Grant us opportunities to share your love with those around us today, and may your will be done. Amen.
