Luke 21:25-28
“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And on the earth, nations will be in anguish, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the surging waves, people fainting from fear and expectation of the things coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.”
Applying God’s Word for today: Get ready to stand, your redemption is near
There are two lines of thought: those who believe the world will eventually end, and those who reject that idea. For those who reject it, this notion conflicts with their logic and understanding; they find security in this world and cannot fathom how it could end. Yet, just as something has a beginning, it also has an end. But they think that simply cannot be!
Those who believe by faith know and trust that the world will end because the Bible tells us; they hold on to God’s Word. God’s word tells of the signs to look for in the heavens and on the earth; amid all the chaos, observe how God’s Word is being fulfilled right before our eyes. We eagerly await Jesus’s return.
Jesus came over 2000 years ago as a baby in Bethlehem, born with the mission of saving the world. Some might see His death as a defeat, but through His death, He overcame sin, death, and the devil. Because not only did Jesus die, but He also rose from the dead, so that all who believe in Him will also rise, and heaven is our home.
What does that mean for us in 2025? God sent His Son as a gift to restore us to Himself. As His Son rose from the dead, faith links us to Jesus’ resurrection. The Father has accepted Jesus’ payment for our sins, so by trusting in Jesus as our Savior, we are reunited with the Father. We have been redeemed by the Son, so when this world comes to an end, we have nothing to fear. We have been adopted as God’s children to be in heaven with Him for eternity.
Dear Heavenly Father, prepare our hearts this Christmas season to know You, trust Your Son, and believe in the Holy Spirit’s work within us. Ready us so that if today is our last day, we will be with You for eternity. If today is not the last day, bless our efforts to share Your love with others, so they, too, might believe in Jesus as their Savior. Amen.
The end will come, whether from our first death or Jesus’ second coming. You prepare by knowing, believing, and trusting that Jesus has forgiven all your sins; hear his words: “Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand.”
