Deuteronomy 7:9
He did this so that you would know that the Lord your God, yes, he is God, the faithful God who maintains both his covenant and his mercy for those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.
Applying God’s Word for today: God faithfully keeps his promise and mercy
We live in a world that seems constantly in flux. Prices, laws, neighbors, and weather change. Often, with these changes, we feel we have no control over them; we are bystanders to whatever comes our way. Do you ever feel like your life is on a stormy sea, anticipating the next wave to come your way?
Yet in all this chaos, we have our God who does not change. He sustains us, and while He does not send these challenges, He limits them. He is faithful to the promises (His covenant) He made, and He demonstrated that He fulfilled them for us. The Bible is clear that He not only promised to send a Savior but also sent His Son to redeem us from all our sins. God is faithful, and it is by faith in His Son that we have salvation and peace. Throughout the Psalms, we hear that God desires a repentant heart because when we acknowledge our sins and bring them before Him, He wants to absolve us freely by His mercy.
For all who believe in Him, He faithfully forgives them for Jesus’ sake. Faith receives God’s gifts of love, grace, and mercy. We bring nothing to the table that can add to what God has already accomplished through Jesus. We cannot keep His commandments in the perfection God demands, but Jesus has. He credited each of us who believe, and we receive His perfection. Out of love for God, we have changed hearts that love God above all else and those around us. Share the good news of God’s faithfulness with those who do not know Him, so they may be among the thousands who love Him.
Lord God, thank you for faithfully keeping your promises throughout all history and for showering us with your mercy. Sustain us in faith, trusting your covenants and your mercy. It is by your mercy that we do not receive the punishment and condemnation we deserve, but instead receive your love, salvation, and eternal life. Keep us always in our faith and give us the courage to share your love with others. Amen.
God has allowed His Son to pay the price for all your sins; your sins are not greater than God. He is faithful to His covenant. When we trust in Him, we know that Jesus has forgiven us and that our slate is clean because we have received God’s mercy.
