Psalm 118:24
This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Applying God’s word for today: Today is a new day!
The world can be chaotic; others might intentionally bring challenges into your life that disrupt everything. We may become frustrated and angry about these things, especially when we tend to focus on the things in our lives that come from ourselves. However, when you realize that everything you possess is a gift from God, today itself is a gift from God. The problems of yesterday are gone, and the troubles caused by passersby have faded away.
However, what about the hurtful words or actions you’ve directed at others, and now you must face your guilt and shame, your own sins you dwell in? While today is a new day, we focus on what Jesus accomplished nearly two thousand years ago. He endured His Father’s wrath and punishment for all our sins. He took our sins upon Himself; He was whipped, beaten, and scourged as punishment for what we have done. As Isaiah wrote, “by His stripes we are healed.” Today is a new day, and all our sins were laid upon Jesus. He died on the cross so we could conquer death, transforming it from a final end marked by eternal suffering into an entry into our heavenly home.
Today is a new day because we can rejoice that, through faith in Jesus, God’s plan of salvation has been fulfilled for us. We never need to wonder if we have done enough today because Jesus has done it all. Let us rejoice in the love God has given us. God’s gift is yours through faith in Him, so let us celebrate this new day He has given us. Share this good news of forgiveness with someone struggling today, trapped in their sins, and unable to see the way out.
Dear Lord God, we thank You for this new day You have given us and for taking away all the pain of yesterday. Hold us close to You, strengthen our faith, and grant us the assurance of the forgiveness of all our sins. May we live our lives as a response to the love You have for us in giving us this new day. Let us rejoice and be glad in this gift of today. Amen.
When you are going through life’s ringer, consider the blessings God has given you—such as forgiveness, life, and salvation, which bring joy, hope, peace, and certainty—right now. Today is a new day, and this is a new moment. Rejoice and give thanks for what God has done for you!
