Time for Grace – July 30, 2026

Psalm 139:1-3

Lord, you have investigated me, and you know. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand my thoughts from far off. You keep track of when I travel and when I stay, and you are familiar with all my ways

Applying God’s word for today: We cannot hide anything from the Lord.

All too often, we have thoughts we would prefer no one knew. Imagine your every thought displayed on a large screen behind you so everyone could see. Perhaps embarrassing and uncomfortable, yet freeing because no one would wonder what is on your mind; they would know all your needs and the best way to care for you, especially in a bad situation. Yet God knows you this way; nothing is hidden from Him. He knows you completely so that He may share His love with you and absolve you of all your sins for Jesus’ sake.

God is all-knowing and knows you completely. If a person sees God as a wrathful, angry god looking to avenge every mistake, this view of God is terrifying. However, seeing God as our loving Father who cares for and comforts us means He knows before you sin. While He does not condone sin, He is ready to offer the forgiveness Jesus won for us. Jesus suffered and died on the cross to forgive us of all our sins. Jesus’ redemption for us was accomplished through His death and resurrection, so that we have the promise of eternal life.

Faith comes to us through God’s means of grace and is the key to how we see our Lord. When we trust that our God is loving and knows us as His children, this Psalm should give us great comfort. There is no place we can go where God is not. We don’t need a large screen because God knows us, and despite all our inadequacies, He loves us anyway, for Jesus’ sake.

Dear Lord, Heavenly Father, we thank you for knowing us so completely that we cannot move without You knowing where we have gone. You know our every thought, especially when our sinful thoughts trouble us. We cannot hide them; You know. Let us confess our sins so that, through faith in our Savior Jesus, who has already forgiven all our sins, we may be strengthened to crawl into Your lap with confidence when we have been hurt; let us hear Your Words of peace, hope, and joy. Let us share the love you have for us with someone who does not know you, so that they might trust you as their loving Father. Amen

Being unexpectedly exposed can be unsettling, but when nothing is hidden and everything is in the open, nothing is unexpected. God knows everything; it is all in the light. There is nothing to hide, and he loves you. He is your Heavenly Father.
