Isaiah 60:1-3
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is dawning upon you. Look, darkness covers the earth, and deep darkness covers the peoples, but the Lord will dawn upon you, and his glory will be seen over you. Nations will walk to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Dear Lord Jesus,
You were the light that came into the world. We were stuck in the darkness of our sins with no way out; sin’s darkness separated us from you. All we had was total darkness. It not only covered the earth but also surrounded each of us. This darkness is unlike our night, where the ambient light around us gives us enough to move about. However, sin’s darkness is like being in a cave or a sealed room where even the ambient light is gone. The believers’ sinful desires want to pull them back into the dark. Those who do not know you wander aimlessly about insisting they will find their own way. Lord, you are the light, and you have brought your word to us to illuminate our paths. You came like the dawning of a new day. Thank you for shedding your light upon our sin, showing us how much we need you. Your glory enlightens the forgiveness of sins you won for us when you died on the cross. It was there as you suffered and died that darkness came upon the mid-day, and you defeated the dark and death. It is your light of forgiveness that unlocks heaven’s door for us. Through faith, we have been given the gift of your holy light. Please give us opportunities to share that light with those still walking in darkness. Amen.
