Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we should pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that are not expressed in words.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We like to think that we have everything together, “I have my schedule and plan for today; this is what I will get done!” But so often, things in life seem to get thrown upside down, and we do not even know for what we should pray. We wonder, what should we do? All these things that come at us are the effects of sin. Because we live in a sin-filled world, we have relationship problems, sickness, and disease; even the furnace or car breaking are all the effects of living in this world. Lord, it is easy to look at everything around us and blame it all on sin. But we also have to see how our sins affect everyone else, and we are responsible for our actions. So, either the sin coming at us or our sins often leaves us without words.

Through Jesus, we have forgiveness of all our sins. He went to the cross, suffered, and died for them, and it is through his resurrection we have life. He sent the Holy Spirit to us to begin our faith through word and sacrament; he is our intercessor. He brings our prayers and petitions before you when we have no idea what we should pray. Father, thank you for sending us your Son, so we are forgiven, and your Spirit to act on our behalf when life becomes overwhelming and we are left without words. May we have opportunities today to share the good news of your Spirit with others left without words. Amen.

God will never leave or abandon you; he has sent his Son, who forgave all your sins, and the Holy Spirit to begin your faith. When you don’t know even what to pray, ask the Holy Spirit for help, he is ready and waiting to intercede.
