Romans 8:26

In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we should pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that are not expressed in words.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We pray you to send your Holy Spirit to be with us in our weakness. Particularly when the weight of the world can burden us, and our sinful desires challenge us to the point that we don’t even know how to ask you for help; those times, we feel, “I don’t know what to say; I don’t know what I should ask.” So please send us your Holy Spirit. Paul’s letter to the Romans reminds us that the Holy Spirit will intercede for us.

Father, you also sent us your Son to intercede on the cross for all our sins. He paid the price to redeem us lost and condemned creatures that, through faith, we would believe in Jesus to have eternal life. Jesus sent us your Spirit, and he intercedes for us by forgiving our sins, starting and sustaining faith in every believer. So when our sins overload us, and the world bears down on us, we are confident knowing that Jesus and your Spirit are with us.

We ask your Holy Spirit to intercede for us with his groans before your throne. We pray, please, Jesus forgive us for your name’s sake, Holy Spirit; please strengthen our faith and restore us to our Heavenly Father. Amen.

Now may this peace of forgiveness and renewed faith give us the courage to share our good news of forgiveness and the Holy Spirit, our intercessor, with those who do not trust in Jesus. So that they, too, will come to have faith in and know God.
