Psalm 1

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked, who does not stand on the path with sinners, and who does not sit in a meeting with mockers. But his delight is in the teaching of the Lord, and on his teaching he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and its leaves do not wither. Everything he does prospers. Not so the wicked! No, they are like the chaff which the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Yes, the Lord approves of the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Let us sit with you and meditate on your words today. Allow us to soak up your words like a tree; satisfy our souls with your holy scripture so that we receive our fill from you. So that our roots would be founded in your word; never allow us to be torn from what you tell us in scripture.

The world would have us fill up on all that satisfies our sinful desires, advising on how to get the most out of this life as if this life is all there is. The world tells us to: “live this best life now for yourself because there is nothing to follow.” However, that is the Devil’s lie, and it is time to call him out.

Lord, you love us; you created and sustained us and continue to support us in this life; you provide for all our needs. When we fell into sin, you already had your plan of salvation ready for us. You loved us miserable created sinners so much that you sent your Son to become like us; he suffered the punishment for all our sins. This plan is incredible that Jesus being true God, willingly went to the cross and removed our every sin. Not only ours but the sins of the entire world. You gave us all this in your word that we not only see our sinful selves but also see, know, and trust in our Savior and believe in the forgiveness Jesus suffered for us.

Through your word, our faith is established by the Holy Spirit. Allow us to sit in it like the tree on the stream’s edge and soak in all the words you have for us. Give us the certainty that all who believe in Jesus as their Savior, you have brought us life, salvation, and eternal life. This world is far from being all there is; instead, that comes to us from you when we enter heaven.

So change our hearts today to desire to sit in your word. Please allow us to share this good news with those who still need to hear your good news about life and the forgiveness that you have given to them. Amen.

Hear Jesus’ words from the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing!” Know that Jesus died to forgive you your every sin.
