Joel 2:28

After this, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We pray for your Spirit to be with us so that we would understand your prophet, Joel. Some might read this passage and understand there is a necessity to prophesy as giving out secret messages from you. In the Old Testament, you had given prophecy to special people whom you had called so they would share your will with your people. They were writing your intention for the people at that time because they did not have the Holy Scriptures. So the prophets wrote as they were carried along by your Holy Spirit.

Peter used these verses at Pentecost to instruct those in Jerusalem when Your Spirit came upon the disciples, and they told the people Your will. There Peter told them the same Jesus whom they had crucified; he died and rose to forgive them all their sins. When the people heard what they had done, they were cut to the heart and asked what they must do. You told them through Joel that everyone who calls on the Lord will be saved. This message is your will for people; thank you for giving us your will. We ask that you guide us to understand your word correctly so we also realize our sins, call on you for forgiveness, and know Jesus has suffered for all our sins, and there we are restored to you.

You gave us your will; it was recorded in your holy writings, the bible. This message is for all to read—men, women, old, and young. Your word spells out for us that you would have all people be saved. And Peter taught on Pentecost how each person is to be saved (Acts 2: 38, 39). “Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

Lord, we pray that you let us declare your will to those who do not know you. So that they will also receive the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness Jesus won for them on the cross. Amen.

God’s will is for you to be saved; it is not some secret encoded message. He makes it very clear—you are saved by the blood of Christ, which has washed away all your sins, so that by believing in him, you are saved, and eternal life is yours.
