Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot stumble. He who watches over you will not slumber. Yes, he who watches over Israel will not slumber. He will not sleep. The Lord watches over you. The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will watch to keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your going and your coming from now to eternity.
Dear Heavenly Father,
When we compare ourselves to the universe you created or just a mountain you established, we can quickly realize how small we are. So we thank you for sustaining, supporting, and providing for our every need. In our lives, you have provided ways for us to keep ourselves and our families, both physically and spiritually. You have given us our understanding and knowledge to read and learn about you, and we can read about your love for us in the Bible.
Thank you for providing and caring for us when things become challenging. Lord, you know how complex our pilgrimage can be, and you comfort us; we know you are our creator with a watchful eye on us. Even when we are inattentive to our surroundings, you never sleep and are constantly vigilant for us.
You have demonstrated the extent of your love and watchfulness by sending us your Son and Spirit. Your Son came, suffered the consequences of our sins, and paid the price for what we have done; he has forgiven all our sins. It is by your Spirit that faith begins in us. By faith, we believe what Jesus has done; you provide for us all our spiritual needs. Please hold us close to you, keep us in faith, and protect us from all harm. Lord, you know all the dangers that wait for us, and we thank you for saving us.
Let us share the hope that those who do not know where our help comes from will also trust in you. Amen.

We pray with Luther: “I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that you would keep me this day also from sin and every evil that all my doings and life may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let your holy angels be with me that the wicked fore may have no power over me. Amen.
