Time for Grace-July 24, 2024

Romans 14:5-9

One person values one day above another. Another person values every day the same. Let each person be fully convinced in his own mind. The person who honors a certain day does this for the Lord, and the person who eats does this for the Lord, because he gives thanks to God. And the person who does not eat does this for the Lord and gives thanks to God. In fact, not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself. Indeed, if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this reason he died, rose, and lived, to be Lord of both the dead and the living.

Dear Heavenly Father,

There is no particular way to worship you; one person honors one day out of respect for you, while another honors every day, and one person chooses to fast while another eats; all give thanks to you. You have given us the latitude to show our love back to you for the love you have shown us. So that in both life and death, we serve you; this is the focus of all believers.

Through these words from Paul, let us remember why we worship you in all we do: you established our salvation through your Son, Jesus, our Savior. For all the times when we judge ourselves as better than others, Jesus humbled himself to be less than us by willingly submitting himself to the suffering of the cross for our sins. Through his death, our sins are removed, and in his resurrection, we are raised to eternal life because you have accepted his payment for our sins.

We pray that we will always recognize our sins and, realizing our need for a Savior, turn to your Son for forgiveness. Strengthen our faith today that we can serve you in all that we do, remembering that in everything we do, we give honor and glory to you for pulling us from hell’s fate.

Let us share this good news today with someone who does not know you so that they, too, will worship and honor you in all they do. Amen.

Serve God in all you do out of love for what he has done for you. He has restored you by his Son’s holy life and innocent death on the cross. In Jesus’ resurrection you know all your sins are forgiven for Jesus’ sake.
