1 John 1:5-9
This is the message we heard from him and proclaim to you: God is light. In him, there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him but still walk in darkness, we are lying and do not put the truth into practice. But if we walk in the light, just as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We are to be in fellowship with you and other believers and walk in the light, proclaiming with James that you are light. However, when we walk according to our sinful desires, intentionally doing those things we know go against our conscience and are loveless, we remain in the darkness of our sins.
To walk by faith means trusting in Jesus; more specifically, it means knowing and recognizing the sins that dwell in our hearts so that we can confess them and receive forgiveness. Faith is knowing you are loving, perfect, just, and righteous, and through Jesus’ forgiveness, we are restored to you. Then, because of our faith, we are also in fellowship of love with one another. Jesus has cleansed all of us from all our sins. James reminds us that no one is innocent apart from you, so thank you for your love and mercy.
We ask that You keep us in the light and strengthen our faith so we flee from sin and the devil. Let us share your love with others so they will walk by faith, knowing your love. Amen

God is light, and light always overcomes darkness, including the darkness of your sins. God’s love and forgiveness overcome all your sins; forgiveness is yours and comes to you by faith alone in Jesus.
