Revelation 7:13-17
One of the elders spoke to me and said, “These people dressed in white robes, who are they and where did they come from?” And I answered him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me: These are the ones who are coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Because of this, they are in front of the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. They will never be hungry or thirsty ever again. The sun will never beat upon them, nor will any scorching heat, for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd. He will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Dear Lord Jesus,
We see the days around us as very turbulent, with everything happening; wars and rumors of war are all around the globe. We live in a post-Christian world, and your people are being persecuted and challenged for their faith; the times seem dire. As we look at the events, many fear that the end is coming close because of these activities.
Yet, the words inspired by the Holy Spirit and written by John give us great hope. Those who believe and trust in you have nothing to fear despite everything happening because, through faith, we have the forgiveness you won for us, and we will be a part of those standing in front of your throne.
Your blood cleanses us from all our sins; you suffered on the cross to save us, being the atoning sacrifice for all our sins. Your love and mercy spread over us like a tent, and you give us your word and sacrament to strengthen our faith. As our shepherd, you lead us to springs of living water, refreshing us with the forgiveness of our sins and giving us peace of salvation. In heaven, we will have no pain, suffering, or tears. Let us share this hope with those who do not know or trust you so that they will be in front of your throne dressed in white when the end comes. Amen.
