Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not allow anyone to put the yoke of slavery on you again.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Freedom is not free but is won at a great price. You freed us from the sins that had enslaved us; our lot was eternal death in hell, and being enslaved to sin, there was nothing we could do to remove those shackles that bound us to our sins and suffering.
Therefore, you came down to earth to be like us and took on human flesh. In our place, you lived a perfect life of love, flawlessly loving the Father and us. In our place, you fulfilled the demands of the law—you did not come here to remove the law but to fulfill it for us.
Then you suffered for our punishments upon the cross, taking all our sins into you and removing those shackles of guilt and shame. You removed all the sins that separated us from our holy God—you, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Then you willingly gave up your life on the cross, bursting the lock of hell’s prison that kept us hostage; you defeated death for us. You gave up your life—the incredible price—to win our freedom.
Moreover, we still need you. Satan, the world, and even our own sinful flesh try to lure us back into those bonds of slavery, back into hell’s prison. Send us your Holy Spirit so that, by faith in you, we seek freedom from sin and love you and those around us. Let us share the good news of freedom with them, and give us the strength in our faith to overcome hatred and choose love. Strengthen us to stand firm in you and not allow anyone to entice us into sin. Lord, we can only do this as you give us strength. Amen.
