Time for Grace – February 12, 2025

Psalm 4:8

In complete peace, I will lie down, and I will sleep, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Dear Heavenly Father,

When we lie down to sleep, we become vulnerable, so we lock our doors and set alarms to alert us in case of trouble. What happens around us while we slumber can make us restless, so as we fall asleep, we want everything to stay quiet. When we trust in you, we can rest assured that you watch over and protect us. We have promises that even if something is allowed to disrupt our sleep, you work all things together for good for those who love you and keep your commandments.

As we approach the end of our lives, we can lie down to rest in complete peace, knowing that Jesus lived the perfect life in our place and suffered for all our sins. Sins separate people from you, which is why you sent your Son to restore us; Jesus lived the perfect life we could not live and credits us with his perfection. Then innocently died on the cross to take all our sins into himself, then rose on the third day so we know our sins are forgiven. By believing in Jesus and for his sake, we have eternal life. With our sins forgiven, we can close our eyes for the last time and take our last breath, confident that we will be with you for eternity.

Strengthen our faith so that each night, as we prepare for our final curtain call, we may lie down in peace, knowing you are with us. In our final sleep, we can rest and dwell with you for eternity. May we share our peace of rest with those who do not know you and with those struggling to find rest; let us share our faith and hope with them. Amen.

Since God has already paid a tremendous price for your salvation—Jesus’ death on the cross—you can be confident He will also care for you. So, when you lay down to sleep in the unknown of night, know the Lord is there to keep your soul safe.
