Time for Grace – March 6, 2025

Psalm 85:8-9

I will hear what the true God, the Lord, will say. He indeed speaks peace to his people, to his favored ones, but do not let them turn to foolish ways. Surely his salvation is near for those who fear him so that glory may dwell in our land.

Dear Heavenly Father,

In this world, many want to guide us in finding inner peace for ourselves. If we listen to them, it revolves around our desires; take what you believe is rightfully yours. Let go of what causes you to struggle and seek something new. It’s all about perception; if it feels good, it must be good. However, all of us are flawed by sin; our feelings are not always the best measure for determining what is right. As we sin against our conscience, it becomes dull, so what once made us feel guilty or ashamed no longer challenges us; we might even feel excited to sin.

Let us hear what you have to say. Your Word sharpens our conscience by revealing Your commandments regarding sin. When we recognize our sins, we also acknowledge our need for a Savior. Jesus took our sins upon Himself; He bore every sin on the cross and endured the judgment intended for us. As we follow Jesus to the cross this Lenten season, we realize that the punishment He suffered was meant for us. In return, He has given us His righteousness; it is intended for everyone. However, those who reject His forgiveness, love, and mercy and return to their foolish ways will still face their judgment.

So we ask for your forgiveness for Jesus’ sake; please send your Holy Spirit to strengthen our faith so that we may both fear and trust in you. Let our faith be assured in the salvation that Jesus won for us on the cross, and may we, through our faith, share this good news with those who do not know you. Please ignite faith within them as we share your word so that they may be among your favored ones. Amen.

It’s interesting how some people believe that trusting in God takes something away from them. While they think they will lose their enjoyment, what they actually lose is the guilt and shame that burden them. In its place is the promise of heaven, where there is no suffering or pain.
