Psalm 51:10-12
Create in me a pure heart, O God. Renew an unwavering spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence. Do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Sustain me with a willing spirit.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We may not realize how David’s life impacts us today, considering he wrote and prayed this Psalm so long ago. While he was a great king who led your people, he also grappled with his sins and encountered significant family issues. David recognized his sins and prayed this Psalm, asking you to create a clean heart within him. He understood your promise to send the Savior, which gave him confidence to pray this Psalm.
Let us honestly confront the seriousness of our sins, for each one should lead to our being cast away from You forever. As we begin our journey to the cross with our Savior, let us recognize our sinful desires and pride, surrendering them all to Jesus so that You will create a pure heart within us.
Let Your Holy Spirit work and sustain our faith so that we never let go of trusting our Savior, Jesus, and we will always trust in you. You restored us to your glory through your salvational plan so that by trusting Jesus’ resurrection, we know we have the forgiveness Jesus won on the cross.
We ask that you sustain a willing spirit within us. Sin can divide and separate us from you, but hearing and being in your Word strengthens our faith and cultivates a trusting spirit. We pray that as we listen to your Word, you will uphold us according to the promises you have made to us.
Let us also share the promise of forgiveness with those who do not know you so that you create in them clean hearts. So that as they trust in your love and mercy, they will know they are restored to you with pure hearts. Amen.
