2 Samuel 7:22
Therefore, you are great, Lord God, because there is none like you. There is no God except you, in keeping with everything we have heard with our ears.
Dear Heavenly Father,
In David’s prayer, he acknowledged how insignificant he was compared to You. He asked, “Why would You look down on us and show us any compassion?” We often perceive ourselves as if we deserve everything we receive.
Especially when we look inward and feel proud, we give ourselves a pat on the back, trying to convince ourselves that we have done well. We judge ourselves as needing no one else due to our perceived greatness, ultimately leading to loneliness.
However, upon closer examination, we recognize how undeserving we are of Your love and mercy. Nevertheless, we must agree with David that this is hardly the case. David’s Psalm (51:3) resonates with us: “There is no one who does good. There is not even one.” Our sins taint everything we do, but Your unwavering love for us, despite our flaws, showcases how great You truly are.
You established Your plan of salvation to remove our sins through the blood of Your Son so that all who believe in Him will have eternal life. Jesus has washed away all our sins by His innocent life and holy death. This removal of our sins demonstrates the greatness of Your love and mercy toward us. You are indeed a great God in all You do; You sustain and uphold us in our lives and souls. We thank and praise You.
Let us share Your greatness with those with whom we live and work daily. May our faith react to love You above all else and to love our neighbors as ourselves, sharing Your forgiveness and mercy with them. We pray that faith will begin and grow in them so they will know and trust You and have eternal life. Amen.

Greatness can only be gauged by achievement. God’s greatness is measured in His love for you. While you were still His enemy, Jesus came to earth to suffer and die in your place so that you could receive eternal life through faith in Him.
