Time for Grace – July 26, 2025

1 Corinthians 10:12-13

So let him who thinks he stands be careful that he does not fall. No testing has overtaken you except ordinary testing. But God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tested beyond your ability, but when he tests you, he will also bring about the outcome that you are able to bear it.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Hearing these words is like watching someone walk along a path unaware that water is eroding the bank below them. As they walk and take their next step toward safety, the path behind them suddenly vanishes and collapses into the raging water. We can become overconfident in our journey through life and focus on our efforts, thinking that somehow we have achieved what we have. We might even shift the focus of our faith onto ourselves, believing that our faith and what we do for You have brought us to where we are. Lord, forgive us when we lose sight of You.

Forgive us when our pride causes us to focus on ourselves. As we admit our sins, we can confidently seek forgiveness for Jesus’ sake. He suffered and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins; You punished Your Son in our place. The trials and tests that come our way, You allow, especially when You need to refocus our attention on You. Pride and sin can weaken a person’s faith and, if left unchecked, lead to eternal condemnation. We must remember that You always remain faithful. While sin separates us from You, forgiveness restores us; Your will is for all people to have faith and be united with You.

Let us hold onto Your promise that the testing we face will not exceed what we can handle, no matter how challenging it may seem. Please send us Your Holy Spirit to strengthen us so we will cling to You as tests come our way. Enable us to share the good news of Your faithfulness with those who do not know You, telling them about Your love, mercy, and faithfulness to us. Please limit our tests so that they are within our capabilities. Amen.

The only firm ground is on the path of God’s Word, where we learn about Jesus’ love and forgiveness and trust God’s love for you. Walk confidently on that solid foundation.
