Psalm 111:7-10

All his precepts are trustworthy, steadfast forever and ever, done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption for his people. He commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Dear Heavenly Father,

To know and fear you is the beginning of true wisdom, and this is not being afraid but a reverent respect for all you have done for us. We pray that you will grant us this fear that comes only through faith in your Son, our Savior. As the Psalmist wrote, your precepts—laws—are trustworthy, steadfast forever and ever. In your laws, we hear of your will for us, that you would have us love you above all other things and love our neighbor as ourselves. To know you is to know true love, but we fail in our efforts. So you sent your Son in our place to keep your precepts perfectly and then credit us with his righteousness; Jesus kept them in truth and uprightness. We thank you for the great news in this Psalm; that this covenant of love will never end, nor will Jesus’ love for us. He suffered and died once for mankind’s sin, which will never be undone and will never end. Your love is there for all who believe in Jesus.

So we thank you for giving us this covenant to realize your love for all. So that through faith, we will receive this wisdom and understanding of your love. We also pray for opportunities to share this message of your love and forgiveness with those who do not know or trust you so that they might fear—believe in you—and have the wisdom of salvation, which comes only through faith in Jesus. Amen.

True wisdom is this: knowing God’s love for you. When you recognize your sins, trust in your Savior, that Jesus has rescued you from all your sins, and know salvation is yours by faith in Christ. That is wisdom that only comes to you by the Holy Spirit.
