1 Timothy 1: 15 – 17

This saying is trustworthy and worthy of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners,” of whom I am the worst. But I was shown mercy for this reason: that in me, the worst sinner, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his unlimited patience as an example for those who are going to believe in him, resulting in eternal life. Now to the King eternal, to the immortal, invisible, only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father,

When we look at ourselves and see the magnitudes of the sins we have committed, we realize how great our sins are. You are the standard for how we live our lives and how we are to love others, but we fall significantly short every day. We cannot compare ourselves to others because we all fall short of your glory. Since you are the measurement, we all, like Paul, must admit we are the worst of sinners. For this reason, you sent your Son to save sinners like us. Jesus went to the cross to suffer our punishment, and we thank you for the mercy you have shown us. What a wonder it is of the love and patience you have demonstrated to everyone that even though the world rejected you continuously, you still sent your Son so that those who believe in him would be saved from all their sins and have eternal life.

Thank you for sending us your Son despite our tremendous debt of sin. Please forgive us of all our sins and strengthen our faith in you that all glory and honor are given to you because of the great mercy you have showered upon us. Allow us to share the good news and your unlimited patience with those who do not know you so they will receive this good news delivered to them by faith, resulting in them having eternal life. Amen.

While we are the worst sinners, we have been restored to God’s perfection by his Son’s Holy life and innocent death on the cross so that by believing in him, you will have eternal life in heaven.
