Time for Grace – October 16, 2024

Psalm 119:130

The doorway to your words lets in light. It gives understanding to the inexperienced.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Jesus said he was the gate to the pen; in other places, he called himself the doorway to heaven and the light of the world, while in John’s gospel, he was named the Word. As the Word, Jesus sheds light on all our sins and then shows us the path to receive his forgiveness by faith in him.

Every person is “inexperienced”; there is no exception; we are all caught up in our sin’s darkness. Paul quoted the Psalms, “No one is righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands, there is no one who searches for God.” (Romans 3: 10,11) We all fall short of your glory and are stranded in sin’s darkness, and each of us deserves your eternal punishment.

When we realize our place, it is not to make us downhearted but to see that we need our Savior. The light not only shows us our sins, but it also shows how Jesus has forgiven every sin. He came into this world to pay the punishment of our sins and give us the gift of repentance and forgiveness. He took our sins into himself as he was hung on Calvary’s cross; there, the light enveloped the darkness, and as the doorway to heaven, Jesus let that light come into the world; we have been redeemed and restored to you through his saving grace and work.

We pray that you would create a new heart in each of us today and give us understanding not only of our sins but also to know and trust your love and forgiveness. As a result of our faith in Jesus—which your Spirit began in us—please give us the courage to share salvation’s good news with those around us. Let us share the light coming through the doorway with others so they know the repentance and forgiveness that lead to salvation. Amen.

If someone rejects God and his word, they shut the door; the closed door shuts off the light. However, with the door open to receive what the Spirit delivers, the light always consumes the darkness. Jesus’ love and forgiveness for you are always far superior to your sins.
