Time for Grace – May 14, 2025

1 Timothy 2:5-6

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for mediating between the Father and us. What prompted you to save us? The Father is holy and perfect and cannot be in the presence of sin. From our perspective, we may consider ourselves fairly good, but nothing is commendable about us if we make an honest assessment. We regularly fail to love you or others perfectly, as you directed us in your Word, and we often act out of pride.

However, despite knowing our every flaw and sin, you executed the plan of salvation for us out of love. You lived your life without sin and credited us with your perfection, as your creation suffered punishment for our sins.

In Romans, Paul wrote, “The wages of sin is death.” And you paid that wage for our sins on the cross with your death. Paul didn’t end there; he added, “But the gift of God is eternal life through faith in Christ Jesus.” So, through faith in you, we trust you paid the price for our sins.

Now, you stand in the breach between the Father and us; you paid our ransom. For those who believe and trust in you, these gifts — forgiveness and eternal life — become ours. Nothing makes us worthy except the ransom you paid and the forgiveness you declared to everyone.

We were all on the same sinking ship, but you rescued and delivered us to safety. Please strengthen our faith so that we will hold fast to you in trust. Grant us opportunities to point others to you, so that you will be their mediator, and please give them the gift of eternal life. Amen.

Recognize that everyone is broken by sin, but Jesus paid our ransom with His life, giving Himself in our place so that the forgiveness of sins and eternal life are available to us all and received through faith in Him.
