Time for Grace – May 23, 2025

Psalm 1

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked, who does not stand on the path with sinners, and who does not sit in a meeting with mockers. But his delight is in the teaching of the Lord, and on his teaching he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and its leaves do not wither. Everything he does prospers. Not so the wicked! No, they are like the chaff which the wind blows away. Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Yes, the Lord approves of the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Let us sit with You and meditate on Your Word today. Allow us to soak up Your words like a tree; satisfy our souls with Your holy scripture so that we may receive our fill from You. May our roots be grounded in Your Word; never let us be torn from what You tell us in scripture.

The world encourages us to indulge in what satisfies our sinful desires, offering advice on how to maximize this life as if it were all there is. The world tells us to: “live this best life now for yourself because there is nothing to follow.” However, these are the Devil’s lies, nothing but chaff that blows away in the wind.

Lord, You love us; You created and sustained us while continuing to support us in this life. You provide for all our needs. When we fell into sin, You already had Your plan of salvation ready for us. You loved us, miserable, created sinners so much that You sent Your Son to become like us; He suffered the punishment for all our sins. This plan is incredible: Jesus, being true God, willingly went to the cross and removed every one of our sins, not only ours but the sins of the entire world. You gave us all this in Your Word so that we not only see our sinful selves but also see, know, trust in our Savior, and believe in the forgiveness that Jesus suffered for us.

Through Your Word, the Holy Spirit has established faith in our hearts. Help us to sit in it like a tree by the stream’s edge and soak in all the words You have for us. Grant us the assurance that all who believe in Jesus as their Savior have received life, salvation, and eternal life from You. This world is far from being all there is; instead, You have blessed us in this life, and the greater gifts of salvation and eternal life await us in heaven.

So, change our hearts today to desire to immerse ourselves in Your Word. Please enable us to share this good news with those who still need to hear Your message about life and the forgiveness You have freely given them. Amen.

Understand and trust that Jesus died to forgive you for every sin you have committed. Hear Jesus’ words from the cross: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing!” God wants you to hear the love He has for you.
